Digital Liturgy for Easter Sunday, April 12, 2020
The purpose of this resource is to walk your family, roommates, or friends (using proper social distancing methods) through an Easter gospel liturgy in your home. It will feature some of the elements we would normally have when we gather together as a church family. Pick someone to do the invitation, readings and prayers or take turns. The purpose is to participate in, and be shaped by, all the elements we would normally practice together as a church.
Invitation TO WORSHIP
To all who are weary and need rest
To all who mourn and long for comfort
To all those who wander and are looking for a story
To all who feel isolated and miss community
To all who are broken and want healing
To all who feel worthless and wonder if God cares
To all who are oppressed and yearn for justice
To all who fail and desire strength
To all who sin and need a Savior
To all who hunger and thirst for righteousness
And to whomever will come–
This church opens wide her doors and offers welcome
In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ
Scripture reading
Isaiah 25:6–9
[6] On this mountain the LORD of hosts will make for all peoples
a feast of rich food, a feast of well-aged wine,
of rich food full of marrow, of aged wine well refined.
[7] And he will swallow up on this mountain
the covering that is cast over all peoples,
the veil that is spread over all nations.
[8] He will swallow up death forever;
and the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from all faces,
and the reproach of his people he will take away from all the earth,
for the LORD has spoken.
[9] It will be said on that day,
“Behold, this is our God; we have waited for him, that he might save us.
This is the LORD; we have waited for him;
let us be glad and rejoice in his salvation.” (ESV)
Opening Prayer
O Father God of the risen Christ,
in whose resurrection we find new life,
send your Spirit to dwell among us in this day of worship.
O risen Christ, Son of the Father,
may we hear your word of peace today.
O Spirit of the living God,
teach us once more to live in the power of Christ’s resurrection,
in whose name we pray. Amen.
Greeting
Say this together:
christ is risen.
He is risen indeed!
Halleujah!
Songs
The Apostles Creed
Say this together:
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
he was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit,
and born of the Virgin Mary,
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
He descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again;
he ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic [united] Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting.
Amen.
Sermon “Responding to the resurrection”
An Easter Sunday sermon from Luke 24:1-12. The sermon will “premiere” at 10:45 AM on Sunday, April 12. It will be available to watch any time after that.
Response
In response to God’s goodness and faithfulness, let’s respond through giving, communion, and singing.
Give
If you are part of the Town Church family, you can give online.
Communion
If you follow Jesus, we invite you to share in communion in your home. As Jesus taught, take some bread and wine or juice and remember his sacrifice death for us. Pray and you take communion and then join together for the last three songs.
Sing
Benediction
Say this together:
As Christ burst forth from the tomb,
may new life burst forth from us and show itself
in acts of love and healing to a hurting world.
And may that same Christ, who lives forever
and is the source of our new life,
keep your hearts rejoicing
and grant you peace this day and always.
Amen.
